The primary definition of faith per Dictionary.com (and Oxforddictionaries.com) is confidence or trust in a person or thing. In fact, the origin of the word faith is from the Latin fides to trust. Only later did the secondary definition become synonymous with traditional religion. I have faith in the scientific method using the first definition.
